Tournament Format
Official sanctioning information
There are 3 separate one-day tournaments (Friday; Saturday; Sunday)
Regular, Multibreed, Veterans and Open classes are unlimited.
Classes Offered:
Classic Regular
Classic Multibreed
Classic Open
Classic Veterans
CanAm (Sunday only ... teams must qualify)
CanAm Multibreed (Sunday only … teams must qualify)
Entry Fee: Each Classic class is $135/team each day.
Team names may not change from day to day.
Regular & Multibreed Class
- Expect 4 races per day.
- The number of entries we receive may make it necessary to slightly alter our format.
- A team must have raced and qualified on Saturday to be eligible to race on Sunday in both the Classic Class and CanAm Class.
- Only Saturday Classic Regular entries are eligible for invitation to the CanAm class.
- Only Saturday Classic Multibreed entries are eligible for invitation to the CanAm Multibreed class.
- A team must be entered for Sunday Classic racing in order to be eligible for the CanAm classes.
- The racing schedule(s) will be created without regard to teams which may run dogs in multiple classes.
- A 1-schedule for multiple rings format will be used.
Open & Veterans Class
- Our goal is 4 races per day.
- Teams are NOT eligible for invitation into the CanAm or CanAm Multibreed class.
- The racing schedule(s) will be created without regard to teams that may run dogs in multiple classes.
- A 1-schedule for multiple rings format will be used.
Friday
- Classic Regular and Multibreed:
• Teams will be separated to the best of our ability into 5-team divisions based on submitted seed times.
• Each 5-team division will run a single round robin, 3 of 5 format.
• Break out rules apply for division placement.
• Times from Friday will not count toward qualifying times for Sunday’s Classic or CanAm Classes.
- Classic Open and Veterans:
• Teams will be separated to the best of our ability into 5-team divisions based on submitted seed times.
• Each division will run a single round robin, 3 of 5 format (subject to change for Vet divisions).
Saturday
- Classic Regular and Multibreed:
• Teams will be separated to the best of our ability into 5-team divisions based on submitted seed times.
• Each division will run a single round robin, 3 of 5 format.
• Break out rules apply for division placement.
• A team's best time during Saturday racing, including break out times, will serve as the seed time for
Sunday’s Classic tournament and as times for qualification into the CanAm classes.
- Classic Open and Veterans:
• Teams will be separated to the best of our ability into 5-team divisions based on submitted seed times.
• Each division will run a single round robin, 3 of 5 format (subject to change for Vet divisions).
Sunday
A team must have raced on Saturday and be entered for Sunday Classic racing (Regular or Multibreed) to be eligible for the CanAm Class.
A team must have raced on Saturday to be eligible to race on Sunday in the Classic classes (Regular, Multibreed).
This does NOT apply to Open or Veterans classes.
- CanAm Regular Class:
• The fastest teams from Saturday’s Classic Regular class will be invited to compete in the CanAm Class not
to exceed 8 teams. Each team will have a guaranteed two races.
• The CanAm class will run a single elimination, with loser bracket, 3 of 5 format.
• Teams in the CanAm class MAY NOT compete in the Classic classes on Sunday
o Dogs on a CanAm class team may be listed on one additional timesheet, in one other class of racing.
o Racing will not be delayed if a conflict arises due to a dog racing in both a CanAm class and a Classic Class.
• Teams accepting invitation into the CanAm class will have $75 refunded ($135 entry fee less $60 CanAm Fee) at NAFA®’s earliest convenience.
• NAFA® reserves the right to alter the number of teams invited to the CanAm class in order to ensure
competitive racing.
- CanAm Multibreed Class:
• The fastest teams from Saturday’s Classic Multibreed class will be invited to compete in the CanAm Multibreed Class, not
to exceed 4 teams. Each team will have a guaranteed two races.
• The CanAm Multibreed class will run a single elimination, with loser bracket, 3 of 5 format.
• Teams in the CanAm Multibreed class MAY NOT compete in the Classic classes on Sunday.
o Dogs on a CanAm Multibreed class team may be listed on one additional timesheet, in one other class of racing.
o Racing will not be delayed if a conflict arises due to a dog racing in both a CanAm class and a Classic Class.
• Teams accepting invitation into the CanAm Multibreed class will have $75 refunded ($135 entry fee less $60 CanAm Fee) at NAFA®’s earliest convenience.
• NAFA® reserves the right to alter the number of teams invited to the CanAm Multibreed class in order to ensure competitive racing.
- Classic Finals Regular and Classic Finals Multibreed:
• Teams will be separated to the best of our ability into 10-team divisions based on fastest time ran on Saturday.
o 10 Team Division will be broken in two 5-team sub-divisions
• Sub-Division A
o Seeds 1,3,5,7,9 compete in a single round robin 3/5 format
• Sub-Division B
o Seeds 2,4,6,8,10 compete in a single round robin 3/5 format
• Any breakout will exclude a team from divisional placement.
• The winner of each sub-division will race-off, 3 of 5 format, in a Championship ring to determine the Division Champion.
• Each Division Champion will receive NAFA® CanAm Classic Champion Awards.
- Open - Veterans:
• Teams will be separated to the best of our ability into 5-team divisions based on submitted seed times.
• Each division will run a single round robin.
• Placement Awards presented at end of tournament.
Dogs
Lineups may be changed from day to day.
Dogs may NOT be listed on more than 2 timesheets per day.
Dogs may NOT be listed on more than 1 timesheet within a class each day.
Other
Due to scheduling difficulties, we will not be able to recognize excused ring conflicts for clubs with more than 5 teams entered
on a given day.
CanAm Class and CanAm Multibreed classes are not Regular or Multibreed Classes. As such, best times will not count as Regular or
Multibreed best times in the database. There is a special listing of best times for CanAm Classes on the database web site.
All other NAFA® rules apply.
